Green Monster

Let's talk about something that's been on my mind lately; the green monster. I'm not talking about an energy drink, a smoothie, or the imaginary scamp hiding under your bed. I'm talking about jealousy.

The problem with being on the world wide web, is things can be portrayed and skewed in any way a person wants. Behind the anonymity of the web, someone can make their life look like the most glamorous thing on this earth, even if they're living in a world of hurt and confusion. Because the internet can be this way, I all too often read comments saying, "I'm so jealous!" "Your outfit is the cutest! I'm soooo jealous!!" "You have a new car? Jealous!" "You got invited to that party?! JEALOUS!!!" Jealous. Stop it with the jealous-ness. Sure, we're all guilty of that little envy bug that comes and bites us every once in a while but have you ever stopped and thought about the origin of that jealousy root? Have you ever stopped and tried to think about all of the marvelous things happening in your life? I love this quote, it sure puts things in perspective. "Jealousy comes from counting others' blessings instead of our own."

Sit down, think about the things in your life that are wonderful and I'm sure after a while you'll begin to appreciate what you do have in life, instead of lusting after what you don't. It is hard to flip that switch, the switch from jealousy to appreciation; I know, I've been there. It is possible though.

I know we're not all "bros" but I think we can all benefit from this brotip. Jealousy really is an ugly trait; it diminishes bright personalities and turns countenances into something dark. So, be supportive of someone in their endeavors. Praise them for their accomplishments, and comfort them in their times of need. Take off that green mask of envy, and look at your own life with fresh eyes; eyes full of appreciation for all that you do have. Life is sweeter that way, I promise.

Conference 2013

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to listen to the leaders of my Church. They gave us great counsel and fed my faith tremendously. I always look forward to listening to their inspired words. One talk that stood out to me distinctly was Elder L. Whitney Clayton's talk on marriage. You can watch it here. He talked about marriage, and ways to strengthen and uphold a marriage. In today's world, it seems as though marriage is thought of as just a thing that can be tossed to the side once one is "done" with it. I feel that it is so sad to hear people mistreat marriage in this way; as though it is trash, tossed into the wind. My favorite quote of his was "Marriage is a gift from God to us; the quality of our marriages is a gift from us to Him."

I hope that I will always remember to treat my marriage as a gift from God, and show him my appreciation of that marriage by the way I treat it in return. What a sweet and simple reminder for all of us.

Body Swim Guide

We're taking a different spin on "Friday's Find" today. Summer is literally here, or just around the corner, and with that brings swimsuit shopping. Cue anxiety attack. Does anyone else loathe finding the right swimsuit? It's not a fun task, but I firmly believe that when you know your body type, and what looks good on your body type; the task can become a little less daunting. So, let's jump right into it.

First figure out your body shape. Usually, the most common are Athletic, Straight, Pear, Apple, and Curvy.

Athletic: Most of the time this shape consists of broad shoulders, muscular legs, and more narrow hips.
Swim to look for: Suits with embellishment that will draw attention to your hips, away from your broad shoulders. Stay away from boy cut bottoms and shapeless tops. Soften your chest area with a little bit of gathering or padding, but stay away from bandeau bikini tops.

Find it here: ASOS Target ASOS

Straight: Have very few curves, hips and waist measure about the same size.
Swim to look for: Basically, anything can go for this body type. You can fake curves though by looking for ruffles around the chest or hip area. Look for tops with cups, it will help add curves as well. Avoid bandeau tops and sporty bottoms.

Find it here: Old Navy ASOS Target

Pear: Your bottom and hip area are larger than your shoulders and chest.
Swim to look for: Enhance your upper figure with ruffles, molded cups, or bright prints. Conceal your lower half with boy short bottoms, full coverage briefs, or hipsters. Avoid bold prints on bottom.

Find it here: Kohl's DownEast JCPenney

Apple: Your trouble area is your stomach. Bust and stomach area are wider than your hips.
Swim to look for: Ruching and ruffles are your best friend, it can help conceal problem spots. Empire waist swimwear will help diminish your stomach area.

Find it here: Target Macy's Target

Curvy: Pretty much you've got that hourglass figure. Larger chest, equally sized hips, and a smaller natural waist.
Swim to look for: Support, support support. String bikini's are not your friend. Look for underwire, molded cups, and solid colors. Smaller prints are okay, but try to stay away from big busy prints. Avoid ruffles around the chest.

Find it here: Target Nordstrom Target

And there you have it! Your complete guide to picking out the perfect swimsuit. I hoped this helps, happy shopping!

Easter Weekend

Because Maddison was sick, our weekend was pretty low-key. We spent most of our time at home, and some time with family when a non-fevered baby permitted. One thing we did escape for though was Saturday's event, The Rogue Runner. Dallin and his brothers-in-law did a 10K mud obstacle race, and all with matching shirts too; labeling their team "Band of Brothers". I was so upset, due to my dumb "smart" phone leading me to the wrong place; I got lost, and missed their finish line crossing by about 10 minutes. But I was so proud of him for doing and completing the race.

Easter Sunday was spent together, at church, and all with a feverish baby. We managed to snap a few traditional Easter outfit pictures, and I'm glad we did. I have so much love for this little family of mine.

It was a good weekend, with some fun memories made. Hooray for times spent together.

Sick baby

Holy cow, it's so crazy how time flies when you're not really paying attention. My poor girl has been sick all weekend/week and it is the saddest thing ever. High fevers, stomach bug, and throw into the mix teeth trying to bud, and you've got a cranky little girl; and a momma that is trying to keep it together. The one good thing about her being sick though is she always wants to be held, and often that makes for some great snuggle time.

Being a mom is by far the hardest thing I've ever done, and it's also the most rewarding. I love to capture these little moments to remind me during the hard times why it's so worth it. I love my little bean!

Easter updates and an actual Friday's Find coming this week.

This one time

I was reading one of my favorite blogs, CJane the other day and was dying laughing at all the embarrassing stories people were sharing. For some reason, I am a magnet to awkward situations and definitely have my share of tales to tell. Here are a few.

- This one time in fourth grade, I was on a softball team. We were at practice when I realized I had to go to bathroom, and bad. I asked my coach if I could run to the restroom and he told me that practice was almost over, I could hold it. It was also my turn up at bat. I trotted over to home plate while trying to squeeze my legs together (a hilarious sight, I'm sure). I hit a few balls, and thought to myself that maybe I could make it until the end. My coach pitched me one last ball and I swung with all my might. Apparently, all my might meant emptying the contents of my bladder as well. Horrified, I crossed my legs, dropped my bat, and looked up at my coach. He told me to go clean up, and as I was running away red-faced I heard another team mate declare "That is so gross, I am never standing at this home plate again. She peed!" Mortified, I ran to my carpool and explained the situation. I had to sit on paper towels the whole way home, embarrassed as ever.

- This one time when my husband and I were first dating, we took a day trip to California to go to Six Flags. We were having a blast all day long, riding rides and eating theme park food. At one point during our day, I looked at his tush (guilty!) and noticed he had a huge wad of gum on his rear. For some reason, anything to do with the waist area makes me so embarrassed. Your zipper is down? Forget it, I will turn bright red and loose the motor function of my mouth. I literally cannot tell you when your zipper is down, or if you sat on something. So, when I saw the gum on his bum, I had an inner battle within myself. If I didn't tell him, he could track it everywhere and possibly make a huge mess. On the other hand, if I did tell him he would know I was looking! I decided to take the plunge and discreetly tell him of his sticky misfortune. He twisted and turned, trying to get it off to no avail. He turned to me and said "Can you scrape it off please?" Stunned, I nodded. What else was I supposed to do? He handed me an old credit card and I went at it. I'm sure I turned beet red, my young naive self was touching the bum of a guy I had hardly been dating a month! Needless to say, I was embarrassed as all get out but things turned out in our favor so I guess the sticky situation was worth it in the end.

- This one time I was THIS close to having my butt grabbed by someone who thought I was his wife. We were both wearing black and had blond hair. He came up close to me then said "Oh, you're not my wife that was almost really bad!" Uh, embarrassing.

- This one time I put magnetic lights on my nose to pretend I had nose rings, and when I took the lights off the magnets attracted to each other through my nasal septum. They got stuck, and started sliding up my nasal cavity. I had to sheepishly go to my mom and tell her I had magnets stuck up my nose because I was pretending to be a punk rebel with nose piercings. Embarrassing.

-This one time I was climbing trees with some friends by a creek. I was being all macho and brave to impress them when my feet slipped and I fell ten feet to the ground. Not too bad, but then I realized I landed in a cow pie. I just about died with embarrassment!

I have more, but some are just too embarrassing to share to the world wide web. What about you? Anything embarrassing ever happen to you? What happened?

Yogurt Queen

My girl Maddison loves yogurt. Like, LOVES it. It is so cute the way she eats it. At first she tries to eat it with a spoon, then ditches that and uses just her fingers, getting it everywhere. I captured her little morning yogurt routine the other day, and had to share!

I gave her one jellybean and now she's obsessed.

And that is how the Yogurt Queen eats her breakfast. Also, she's the Queen of Bed-head, as observed above. Life with her is never dull!

Friday's Find

This week is dedicated to dresses. Dresses for the spring and summer are pretty much vital, especially if you live in the desert we call Arizona. When finding a perfect summer dress, look for dresses that are loose but still have form. If you have on a tight, body-con dress you are going to be a sweaty mess. And nobody likes that. So without further adieu, friday's find.
Find it here: Banana Republic - Target

Find it here: Anthropologie - Old Navy

Find it here: Nordstrom - Old Navy

Happy dress hunting! And again, any preferences for Friday's Find? Let me know in the comments!

Pear House Favorites: Cookies

I literally didn't know it was Wednesday until about 2:00 this afternoon. For some odd reason, I believed it was Tuesday pretty much all day. I'm still weirded out, and don't quite know if I can trust my brain. I guess it's just been one of those weeks. I feel blind to the world, locked in my own little mind. To remedy my major brain lapse, I decided it was time for chocolate chip cookies, so into the kitchen I trotted; toddler in tow. I love to bake with my little one, she is so interested in how eggs crack, how the flour puffs when poured into the bowl, and the gritty texture of sugar. This is our favorite cookie recipe by far.

1 cup butter, softened1 cup white sugar1 cup packed brown sugar2 eggs2 teaspoons vanilla extract3 cups all-purpose flour1 teaspoon baking soda2 teaspoons hot water1/2 teaspoon
salt (sometimes I add a pinch more salt)2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
3. Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.

For real, these are fool proof. Growing up, I always made cookies with my mom. When I got married, I tried time and time again to make those same cookies for my husband but seriously, they always ended up like little brick cookies. Then, this recipe fell into my lap and I haven't looked back yet! I'm in love with them and make them probably way too much. But, they're so good I can't stop! Try it and let me know how it goes!

Friday's Find

Today in Arizona, temps are rising up into the 90's. You know what that means? Summer has started. What's spring? Apparently we don't know about spring here! Well, with summer beginning that means swim season is in full swing! Today's Friday Find is all about the swimwear.

Find it here: Macy's - JCPenney

Go bold this summer with red! It will be an eye catcher and you will definitely make a statement at the pool. To coverup, go for a lightweight shirt dress or tunic. White will make you look tan, and is a top color in the fashion world this summer!

Find it here: ShopBop - Target

A big floppy hat will keep the sun out of your eyes, while still looking stylish. To make things more fun, tie a bright colored scarf around the top of the hat!

Find it here: JCrew - Target

To finish off your summer attire, go for these adorable glitter sandals. These Target sandals are the perfect knock-off of the Vera Wang sandal. The glitter in the Target sandal is a mix of silver and gold, instead of all gold like the Vera, but still cute nonetheless.

Find it here: Nordstrom - Target

I love that style doesn't have to be forfeited with price. Obviously, this look is attainable at either ends of the budget spectrum.

Happy Summer!

P.S., Have an idea for a Friday Find? Or looking for a specific find? What would you like to see more of? Shoes, clothes, maternity, plus size, kids, men? All of it?! Let me know in the comments!

Strawberry Treat

Strawberries are one of my favorite fruits, but sometimes they need a little something to spice them up. This easy treat sounds a little bit sketchy, but don't knock it until you try it! It tastes like a little strawberry cheesecake.

Here's how you make this yummy strawberry snack:

Go! Go now and get the ingredients. You can thank me later!

NBA Date Night

My favorite part of the weekend is finally getting to spend some quality time with my husband and baby girl. Between work, school, and just life in general; the week usually passes with limited time to spend together. So to say that I absolutely cherish my weekend dates would be an understatement!

This weekend, I found out that we could find Suns tickets for incredibly cheap. Yes, they were way up high but something about the ambiance of sports arenas just get me good. Stubhub is where we found our tickets, and this week there are Suns tickets for as low as $1.00 each, which makes for a fun yet cheap date night! We invited along my in-laws to the game (my father in law is a huge sports fanatic), and it made for a great evening.

We first started out the night getting some yummy BBQ from Bill Johnson's Big Apple. I loved the old western decor of the restaurant, and the food wasn't half bad either.

One day I'll get a good camera..

After our tummies were full, we headed out to the game. I haven't been to a NBA game since I was about 15, so it was exciting being there again. I forgot how entertaining they make it during all the "commercial breaks" with kiss cams, free t-shirts, games, etc. We ended up leaving after the 3rd quarter because Maddison was ready for bed time, and was making sure we knew it!

During the half time show, we got kind of bored watching the mediocre "Suns Dancers" so we had a little photobooth photoshoot of our own. I think that was the highlight of my night. I love capturing fun little moments like this!

It ended up being a really fun night, and I think we'll take advantage of those super cheap tickets and go again. Hopefully they will have cheap tickets for baseball season too! Go D-Backs!

P.s. We may be totally oblivious, but my husband and I noticed that the SUNS logo on center court is the same upside down as it is right side up. And the "flames" behind the basketball logo is actually the Phoenix firebird logo that is all over Phoenix. The ad and logo people are geniuses.

Friday's Find

One thing I love about the web-world, is online shopping. I can literally get this season's styles with the click of my finger. One thing I do not love is the price of some of the "Must Haves!" that are out there. Luckily, I tend to have a bargain bone in me, and will hunt until I find that particular item (or one similar) for a price that won't break the bank. Starting today, I will be posting every Friday (hopefully) items I find for a steal. This series will be called "Friday's Find".

Today's find is a gorgeous neon sandal; neon is all the rave this spring. I first fell in love with this sandal before I saw the price. Once I realized I would have to fork out almost $70, I thought no way! Then something flickered, a memory of the same sandal at one of my favorite stores Target. I quickly scourged the internet and sure enough: Friday's Find.

The only noticeable difference is the back strap and the extra side strap on the Dolce Vita sandal, otherwise they're pretty much identical! So go and buy these puppies and you will have the most styling feet this spring.
